As technology and business continues to transform, the need for project managers is becoming more and more prevalent. New courses in this needed area will launch through the College of Lifetime Learning in Spring 2026.

As technological innovation, shifting business trends, and a dynamic workforce continue to transform industries, the demand for project managers is becoming more prevalent. According to the Project Management Institute, an estimated  30 million new project professionals will be needed by 2035. To help meet this demand, the College of Lifetime Learning is launching new project management courses beginning next spring (CLL 6803).  

The Value of Project Management  

The College of Lifetime Learning cultivates leaders who champion and enable learning throughout one’s lifetime. As AI continues to reshape careers, the human element becomes increasingly valuable. Project managers rely on key durable skills like adaptability, communication, and problem-solving to foster collaboration and lead their teams from beginning to end. The courses, taught by expert instructors with relevant industry experience, will serve a wide range of learners, including undergraduate and graduate students. 
 
These new offerings reflect the College’s mission to make learning accessible, practical, and relevant at every stage of life. By equipping learners with skills that translate directly to the workplace, the College of Lifetime Learning connects academic study with real-world application.   
 
To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, the courses are strategically designed to provide real-world application of project management knowledge and skills. Limiting enrollment to 25 students per course ensures a more personalized experience and helps foster essential skills such as leadership, collaboration, and conflict resolution.  

Courses for Spring 2026 

Introduction to Project Management (CRN 35327) will provide students with a thorough overview of fundamental project management methodology, introducing both principle-based and process-based approaches. Learners will gain a foundational understanding of project life cycle management, including predictive/waterfall, adaptive/agile, and hybrid approaches, which includes how to initiate a project and ensure strategic alignment within the organizational context. 

Introduction to Agile Program Management (CRN 35329) will offer learners a deep dive into the Agile Manifesto, along with principles, mindset, and multiple development approaches that are most relevant in today’s industry. Learners will gain an in-depth understanding of scaled process-based approaches for strategic alignment, benefit delivery, value optimization, and the iterative nature of balancing program resources and risk thresholds.

As graduate students, these new project management courses provide an opportunity to round out your expertise with industry-relevant knowledge.
